SINGLE POINT CUTTING TOOL

SINGLE POINT CUTTING TOOL

Face : The face is the surface over which the chip flows.

Flank : flank is the surface below the cutting edge.

Cutting Edge: The cutting edge carries out the cutting.

Heel: The heel is the intersection of the flank and the base of the tool.

Shank: shank is the main part of the body used to hold the tool on the tool holder

Nose: The nose is the corner chamfer or arc at the junction of the major and minor cutting edges

Angles: The various angles increase tool performance to several extend and therefore, the value should be selected with great care and consideration.

 Single-Point Cutting Tool Various Angle :

1)    Side Cutting Edge Angle(SCEA):

             Side cutting edge angle is the angle between the side cutting edge and the side of the tool shank. side cutting edge angle is also known as a lead angle.

2)    Side Relief Angle (SRA):

            Side relief angle is the angle between the portion of the side flank immediately below the side cutting edge and a line perpendicular to the base of the tool and measured at right angles to the side flank.

)   End Cutting Edge Angle(ECEA ):

                    End cutting edge angle is the angle between the end cutting edge and a line normal(perpendicular)to the tool shank.

     4 )   Side Rake Angle (SRA):

                    The side rake angle is the angle between the tool face and a line parallel to the base of the tool. and it measured in a plane perpendicular (normal) to the base and the side cutting edge as shown in fig .this angle gives the slope of the face to the tool from the cutting edge.

                     Side Rake Negative if the slope is towards the cutting edge.

                     Side Rake Positive if the slope is away from the cutting edge.

       5 )   Back Rake Angle(BRA):

                   The back rake angle is the angle between the face of the tool and a line parallel to the base of the tool and it is measured in a plane perpendicular through the side cutting edge.

                        Back Rake Angle Negative if the side cutting edge slope upward from the point toward the shank.

                         Back Rake Angle Positive if the side cutting edge slopes downward from the point toward the shank.
